Day 3 and the going gets sore #SamsCycle

Kansas feels a long way away
It was another early start as hubbie decided "to get a jump on the day".

I'm not sure Sam was quite as keen. Poor lamb fell asleep at 9 last night having done a fair few miles yesterday, but like all 14 year olds, he needs his sleep. So 6am came as a shock, but revived by not only his chocolat chaud, and mine and Katie's as well as two croissants with extra Nutella to be on the safe side, he was raring to go, even though it's now raining avec force.

They were certainly fired up yesterday. As hubbie explained, the Avenue Verte was the most stunning terrain he has ever cycled. It was beautiful countryside with a really smooth road surface for cyclists with the only real climb at the end of the track. Todayis the day that worries me and, with Sam suffering already from being saddle sore, it's going to be a hell of a 78 miles. Hubbie has promised to take it easy and we are going to meet up at three junctions along the way armed with frozen peas, Nurofen and more chocolate.

Our hotel was mostly occupied by cyclists attempting the London to Paris run, but they are all serious cyclists and none of them are anything like Sam's age. He's doing so well with not a single complaint so if you haven't already, do support him on Justgiving, Sam Ogden-Newton. Many thanks to the Woodfords for their support and message of encouragement today. Knowing folk are willing them on does help the boys especially Sam who won't let on, but is finding this tough.

  1. Well they did it! Exhausted they completed the 78 miles which is around a whopping 115 kilometers. Sam is snoozing after his Epsom Salt bath and Hubbie and I are in the bar putting the day to rest with the odd presse.
