Social impact and scale of "co-operators" has never been greater than it is now in this, the UN Year of Co-operatives 2012. In the Guardian social enterprise network's September podcast Sean McGinty gets to grips with the co-operative movement, both in the UK and around the world.
This month Sean talks to the president of the International Co-operative Alliance, Dame Pauline Green, and hears from Gijsbert Huijink ofSom Energia, an energy co-operative based in Spain.
Allison Ogden Newton from the Transition Institute and Andrew Burnell of City Healthcare Partnership CIC give their thoughts on spinning out from the public sector. Plus Sean talks to Giles Simon of Cooperatives UK about the International Year of the Co-op and Co-operatives United, a major event in Manchester at the end of October 2012.
